Drop-Out with reactive Effects
with Erna Piechna-Sowersby / CH
9 - 11 february 2024
Class description:
In this class we present the basics of the drop-out technique for deep vessels, vases or goblets; shapes which are usually only achieved by glass blowing.
The process encompasses the preparation of the blank, the controlled drop out firing, the separation of the ‘collar’ (by hand!) plus the grinding and polishing of the base and rim.
The colour work focuses on the reactions which occur when specific glasses and metals are combined and the chemistry comes into play.
This is a field of experimentation without boundaries. You learn which products are especially interesting and how you can playfully coax the glass to produce these fantastic effects.
Projects: Three vessels plus reference samples
Skill Level: Experience in kiln forming is useful.
Category: FUSING
The fee includes all materials as well as a simple lunch and beverages. We can provide tools for those who do not bring their own.
