Glassbeadmaking - Evening Class
with Mehmet Uensal / CH
12 May 2023
Class description:
The bead is most probably the oldest form of embellishment worn by mankind. The most recent information leads us to believe that beads made from wood, bone or stone were made more than 40'000 years ago. Glass beads only came in to play about 5'000 years B.C. in some antique cultures, glass beads were as highly valued as gold etc. and were similarly used as means of payment.
In this class you will study and practise the basic techniques of glass beadmaking; how to use the flame as a tool to melt and shape the glass. You work with coloured glass rods from Murano, which you will learn to combine in many different methods. You will go home with a nice handfull of glass beads, maybe enough for a small bracelet.
